What are we looking for when we go to a museum? A sense of history? A sense of self? Perhaps out of some sense of propriety, we cannot think of a world without history, without us. Fusco and Gómez Peña’s work highlights the museum’s role as not simply a collection of histories but also desires—highlighting the museum as a performance. Deeply disturbing, their work forces us to confront those parts of ourselves we might wish to forget.
